About PetAge

A simple tool for dog and cat owners

Why we built this

Most of us grew up hearing “one dog year equals seven human years.” It’s catchy — and usually wrong.

Dogs and cats grow fast early on, then age at different speeds. Size matters a lot for dogs: a Chihuahua and a Great Dane don’t age the same way. PetAge turns your pet’s age (or birthday) into a clearer human-year estimate so care decisions feel less like guesswork.

What you can do here:

  • Estimate dog or cat age in human years
  • Factor in dog size when it matters
  • See a life stage and a few practical care tips
  • Use it free, with no account required

It’s an educational estimate — not a vet diagnosis. When health is on the line, talk to your veterinarian.

How the estimates work

PetAge uses widely shared veterinary-style conversion patterns: pets mature quickly in the first year or two, then the human-year mapping slows and shifts with age. For dogs, small / medium / large size bands change the curve because larger dogs often age faster later in life.

What we don’t claim

  • We don’t claim lab-grade DNA “accuracy percentages”
  • We don’t replace a veterinary exam
  • Individual pets vary — genetics, health, and lifestyle all matter

Think of the result as a helpful reference for conversations at home and with your vet.
